Who We Are
Solid Energies Inc. (SEI) is a Southern California developer of solid-state and semi-solid lithium-ion batteries, founded in 2017. Over $10 million in R&D funding from DoD/DoW, DOE/ARPA-E, NASA, and the California Energy Commission, plus private investment, supports our 2 MWh/yr pilot line in Anaheim, with a 0.3GWh/yr pre-mass-production line designed
and planned.
Our Technology
SEI’s core technologies, protected by 10 granted U.S. patents, cover three areas: (1) polymer composite-based electrolyte and in-situ polymerized electrolyte; (2) electrolyte-infiltrated composite electrode; and (3) multi-layer, co-curing battery cell processing that is highly compatible with today’s Li-ion production lines. On this foundation, SEI develops electrolyte, cell, and pack together to provide the best combination of safety, energy, peak current, weight, and temperature range.
Products
Generation 1 Solid-State Pouch Cells
Cell-level performance under SEI test conditions: 320–350 Wh/kg; −30 °C to +60 °C (extended −40 °C to +90 °C range in development); >1,000 cycles; 3C charge / 5C discharge; no thermal runaway events in SEI internal testing to date.

Custom Solid-State Battery Packs
Custom packs built from SMBC cells: voltage and capacity definition, BMS and communication requirements, mechanical packaging, and charging integration.
Defense and Aerospace Batteries
SEI's solid-state cells and packs are designed for:
- Puncture and impact resistant: designed to avoidfire when penetrated by shrapnel or small-arms fire, subject to program-specific testing.
- Wide temperature range: −30 °C to +60 °C today without active thermal management, extending toward −40 °C to +90 °C.
- Drop-in compatibility: including ongoing work on select DoD/DoW and NASA projects.
- Scalable form factors: mission-configurable for air, land and sea platforms. Battery products in development for defense include UAV batteries, 6T vehicle batteries, BB-2590 batteries, conformal wearable batteries (CWB), and stationary/mobile energy storage.
SEI has demonstrated solid-state 48 V / 5 kWh solar-storage systems through a California Energy Commission (CEC) development project, and has received product-sample orders from Airbus Defense and Space and Leonardo DRS Naval Power.

Work with SEI
- Partnerships: Advanced development for DoD and DOE, OEM partnerships, and IP licensing to manufacturing partners.
- Supply: Cells, modules, and packs from prototype to mass production.
- Development Services: Cell and electrolyte engineering, custom pack design (BMS, communication, packaging, charging), materials testing, prototyping, and scale-up planning.
- Evaluate SEI cells for your platform: Share your application, voltage, usable energy, continuous and peak current, space, weight limit, charging method, and timeline and we will recommend a configuration and share datasheets.
